There is nothing preventing the ribbon to break if it's original. It's brittle and can't be rescued. A replacement is the best you can do. The trick on desoldering is to apply fresh tin before desoldering. Normal metal pliers are what we use because plastic will melt.
I have pliers that are like needles at the tip. The smaller the tip the less heat is transferred.

I have a birthday.p as Autorun program on my zeddy.
So every time I start up my zeddy it tells me who's Birthday is next.

Best place is really close to 5he regulator and Marks place is really the best.
The Pi Zero is fine with the 5V coming from the regulator as is has sufficient filters.
The Wespi circuit shows an electrolyte capacitor and please don't skip that. It's really necessary.
