yes, that is the soul of this solution :) - the buffer is (on) the screen (to get game board as big as possible)
I am planning a new version of Snake in lowres (with hidden commands as tail) with a gametwist.
It will be a port of a game I made on the ZX Spectrum.

Re: Games of TRON

I wondered how you stored the snaketrail, but you did with characters what I did with hidden commands.

Re: Cassette60 : the 1K hires games

Simon tested several ZX81. Some work, some not. Was there a clear pattern where there same ZX81 computers always failed with all the WRX games? My experience is more to the emulation side. That said, I recommend that you ask Simon to do some controlled tests (no RAM packs, Chroma interfaces etc - j...

Re: Cassette60 : the 1K hires games

Internal RAM or ULA, I don’t know. OK, so let’s narrow this down a bit: 1) Were the problems limited to WRX games? all games are wrx 2) Did any of the WRX games work on Simon’s ZX81? Simon tested several ZX81. Some work, some not. 3) Did Simon record any video or stills of the display problems? pic...

Any conclusions why they don’t work on all ZX81s? The obvious being RAM packs or modified units with internal RAM not being compatible with WRX - but I think Simon ruled this out.

Cassette60 : the 1K hires games

So in 2019 we tried to make 1 tape with the 60 1K hires at that moment. Unfortunately not all ZX81 machines can load the games. So you can have a machine that is not capable of displaying the games correctly. For this reason the tap is never released. However... especially for this tape I refurbishe...

Re: Resizing the screen (number of lines)

A CLS wil set the screen to 25 newlines.

To use smaller screens you must not use CLS.
The smallest screen is a POKE start of screen (DFILE-pointer) with #E9.

You can do this also for rest of screen unused lines

Re: Tricks in BASIC

Hi I've not programmed anything in 30 years and am really struggling with many things. This caught my eye while I was reading a few threads earlier this evening and I wonder if anyone could post an explanation of line 20. The rest is simple enough to follow and I think I kind of somewhat get it, bu...
