Re: ZX81 Toddy Forth-79

New release, see the first post . This release brings some minor tweaks to the TF79 and the inclusion of the Assembler and Double Words Extension Set. Also included is the NOKREP folder with versions without key repeat and key beep. These versions are primarily intended for those who use external Me...

ZX81 Toddy Forth-79

When I released the first version of Toddy Forth about 10 years ago, my main motivation was to learn more about this curious and fascinating programming language, whose first contact dates back to 1987, through a basic compiler published in the Brazilian magazine Micro Sistemas . Another motivation ...

Re: FIF. Another FORTH.

It's allowed me to start writing some words for the colour functionality of Chroma 81. Hurrah! They'll get tested tomorrow. Warning of undesirable behavior of EO related to the use of Chroma81 (I do not know if the same occurs with the real device): when attribute color mode is set the memory betwe...

Re: FIF. Another FORTH.

I once read somewhere that there was no forth commercial system that was 100% standards compliant, perhaps that explains the divergence between the F79 documentation and the referenced compilers and books. It seems to me that at the time they did not like the new definition for SIGN and kept the old...

Re: FIF. Another FORTH.

Hi Moggy and Alan! This is a little confusing for me, while in Forth-79 Standard paper the SIGN word expect the sign flag at TOS, I found some references that say that the SIGN acts as in FigForth, that is, the signal flag is the third item in the stack and ROT is included to the SIGN definition. So...

Re: FIF. Another FORTH.

Hi Alan,

Don't worry, I understand perfectly! After all, what would be our motivation if not the challenge and the fun of doing it? ;)

Re: FIF. Another FORTH.

All good so far with TF79. I have steadily worked through the examples in Alan Winfield's book and only the S->D caught me out as it's now S>D. S>D was introduced by Forth83 and I used it on the previous Toddy Forth, so I kept it. S->D is originally from FigForth and is not foreseen in Forth79, but...

Re: FIF. Another FORTH.

Hi Kelly, It's great to see that Forth still has its fans. One of the reasons I went with a screen per file was I'm trying to be as parsimonious with RAM as I can at this stage. I've only just started to think about how I'm going to handle Chroma 81. I know, though, that it's going to use up anothe...

Re: FIF. Another FORTH.

Hello Alan! Good to know that there are more people interested in Forth development for the ZX81! Coincidentally, I am also developing a new compiler compliant with FORTH-79 standard, it is already in a very advanced state (Moggy is my beta tester ;) ) and only a few minor adjustments are needed bef...
