Welcome to the forum Max! Plenty of life in those old machines (and us old users!) yet.

Re: SD card reader for ZX81
Another possible alternative is the TZXDuino which emulates a cassette player and uses SD cards to hold the files. You load files the traditional way, typing LOAD "" then pressing play on the TZXDuino (after selecting the file from the onscreen menu on the device). Loading is slow but you could argu...

Re: Any thoughts on what kind of internal RAM upgrade this might be?
Has it been composite modded? Daft as it sounds I sold one (of quite a few) on eBay where I had done the RAM as shown and fitted a ZX8-CCB composite mod board and the buyer got in touch to say it didn’t work. Lardo, can you believe it, yes it has - perhaps this is one of yours? - and it turns out t...

Re: Hello from London UK
Thanks for the welcome Mark. I have not had a moment free since my last post and am unlikely to do so in the next couple of months. Hoping for a few hours over Christmas to continue to explore the ZX81 and this forum. If only getting hold of a computer from childhood gave you as much time as you use...

Thank you all for the very warm welcome!
RetroTechie thank you for the advice and links: my spare time is in very short supply so I'll multiply your estimates accordingly but I'm sure the information you've shared will speed things up Hope things are cooling down in NL.

Re: Any thoughts on what kind of internal RAM upgrade this might be?
Hi Lardo Thank you. That is amazingly helpful. Is the site you link to yours? Those pictures are very useful. Next time I get a chance to sit down with it, I am going to risk powering it on and then, if there is no display, start investigating further. Now that I know what this mod is supposed to be...

Any thoughts on what kind of internal RAM upgrade this might be?
Hi everyone I've opened up a ZX81 I bought as not working on eBay and found the following user modification to the RAM. Front.png Back.png I am assuming that the original owner has (tried to) upgrade the internal RAM but I cannot see how the modifications that they have made correspond to the intern...

Hello from London UK
Hi everyone Just a quick post to introduce myself and say hello. The ZX81 was my first ever computer and I have never forgotten the sense of wonder I felt at playing Adventure Tape 1. I soon moved on to the ZX Spectrum - and Level 9 adventures - then the Amstrad PCW where I finally got a chance to p...
