Re: Resurrecting A ZX81, ZX Printer & Spectrum

My cheap flat screen tv acted the same way with my TS1000. It would sync for a second, then lose it and go blue screen as if it had no signal. If you don't have an old CRT TV, maybe you do have a VCR, you can try feeding the ZX through the VCR to your flat screen.

Re: Wanted: unused or scrap boards / PCBs

I have a 4x2.8" (~100x71) unused double-sided board from the 70's or 80's intended for a single 40-pin DIP, a couple dozen transistors plus other parts. Still shiny and showy on the component side. But I'm in the US. Is it even worth photographing and looking up shipping cost? May have been for a DA...

Re: Heritage for sale Timex, Lambda 8300, Printers, RAMS, and a lot more

I hope you did well with your auctions. The Timex with the hacked TI99/4A keyboard is a treasure. Whoever made it spent a lot of time on the project, especially adding the keywords to the keycaps. My version is in my avatar. I made a crude case large enough to hold the motherboard and RAM, plenty of...

Re: Frogger

Another way to boost low audio from a PC is to feed it into your cassette recorder's mic input. Record it to tape at the same time or put it on pause. Either way, send the earphone output to the ZX. There's adapters used to convert stereo headphone 1/8" plugs to mono, should work fine on the recorde...

Yes, certainly! I see from Ian's post I must wire in a pair of Ruby Slippers. How could I have missed that?

Re: How bad was the wobble on the zx81

Most everyone enjoyed cussed at the same quirks. My first quick answer was to solder the outer RAMpack terminals to the TS1000 connector. Later, I solved the poor loading, heat, RAM wobble and keyboard problems with a little hacker upgrade. A surplus TI99 keyboard in an open bottom plywood case with...

I built this loader circuit. Copy it exactly and you can't fail!

Re: ZX81 loading of programs not working

I also saw problems using a G4 PPC Mac laptop's headphone out, even with the proper stereo to mono adapter plug or with a custom soldered cable going to a monitor/level meter dongle I built. If I first ran the Mac's audio into my cassette recorder's MIC input, and ran its output to the Zeddy, I foun...

Re: Faulty ZX81 logic probe results

I built a logic probe from a kit. While trying to use it and learn, I find I'm not very logical! Mark is right. Just reading all pins without learning the underlying reasons for them won't find the problem. You need to understand what each chip is doing and what lines should be high/low/pulsi...

Re: ZX81 loading of programs not working

A 0/0 means it was a good load. (zero errors, no lines affected) Did you try to RUN or LIST at that point? Some programs auto-RUN, while others do not.
