Re: Preferred SD Card for ZXpand+

I can think of one thing it definitely might be,... there are "fake" memory devices (SD cards, thumbdrives) floating around out there, particularly on fleaBay. The memory addresses are "wrapped", i.e. later addresses point to the same actual locations as early previous addresses. The device will rep...

Yes indeed--congratulations! (I would have killed for that handsome real keyboard back in the day,...)

Re: First zeddy boots but....

Another use of the 48-64K area I just remembered. My "model" program contains a routine called FLASHOUT, which copies in its entirety the normal 16-32K program area to the higher one. Why? Sometimes during development, programs crash. (I know I know,... this may come as a shock,...) Murphy's Law dic...

Re: First zeddy boots but....

BUT... I'm reading about Hi-Res graphics... and ... well... if there's going to be no real benefit, then I won't and stick at the 16K... but I'd be interested to hear thoughts please. For what it's worth (maybe not a lot), here's what I did with the 2nd non-contiguous 16K of the 32K version of the ...

Re: Tiny Basic for the ZX81

I'm not qualified to answer your question, having shamefully never opened Z80 assembly. But I will follow this thread with interest for another reason. Tiny BASIC intrigues me because I have a Sanyo PHC-20, which is a rare bird natively housing only an "extended" version of Tiny BASIC. I find it qui...

Re: Power Supply switching between ZX81 & Speccy

Oh yeah ? I bet my PCs could beat up your PCs,... 7 towers, 8 laptops, and a few vintage "luggables" in my collection. Only 1 tablet that doesn't work worth spit so I hate using it. Could be the chicken; could be the egg, there. Never got the knack of hunt/peck or typing with my thumbs. If I h...

Re: Ian buys a (sort of) Zeddy,... Timex-Sinclair 2068

I've seen that cartridge on fleaBay, and may spring for one eventually. I do have one working ZX Spectrum 48K, but it's always nice to have "a spare", or at least a way to parallel it. The Spectrum was never very popular over here, so they're somewhat hard to come by.

Re: ULA 'TAPE IN' Expected Voltages?

This discussion reminds me of the last meeting of our retro computer club. Several of us brought in ZX81/TS1000's, and many reported that they couldn't load or save programs. Ever. The "solution" in these cases turned out to be embarrassingly simple. The fellows felt intuitively that the "Mic" port ...

Ian buys a (sort of) Zeddy,... Timex-Sinclair 2068

I was in Ottawa for a funeral a few weeks ago. While I was there I checked out the Kijiji ads, and came home with a Timex-Sinclair 2068. I must have been living under a rock, because I'm ashamed to admit I didn't even know this animal existed . I finally got a chance to play around with it today. Ju...

Re: NEWBIE - Composite Mod planned, and related question

Yes, a ZX81 or Timex-Sinclair 1000 will happily boot to a K cursor with no keyboard attached. In my experience, some modern TV's do not like the composite signal coming out of a Sinclair. I don't know exactly why. I only know that I have one TV that refuses to acknowledge that any signal is there, a...
