ZXDB and ZX81

Hi,

Some of you might already know about ZXDB:

"ZXDB is an open database containing historical information of software, hardware, magazines and books about ZX-Spectrum and related machines.
It was created by Einar Saukas, starting from the full content of Martijn van der Heide's Original WorldOfSpectrum, Jim Grimwood's SPOT/SPEX, and Chris Bourne's ZXSR archives (all of them imported with consent, directly from their internal files)"

In the last couple of years, a lot of ZX81 material has been added to ZXDB, and this will continue to make ZXDB even more enriched with ZX81 related informations. However, part of this is also make sure the informations are as correct as possible, but as none of us are experts on everything released on ZX81 we would like input/help from the experts here on this forum.

ZXDB are the used by websites such as https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/ and https://zxinfo.dk/ - so if you find any incorrect information or can contribute with missing info, please post a comment here - togehter with a link to the entry in either SC or ZXInfo, and help us make sure ZXDB will be the best ZX81 information source in the future.

Some areas where we look for help:
- sourcing new or missing ZX81/ZX80 software titles, especially on the non-english forums
- correct or adding missing information of existing titles in ZXDB
- create screenshots for titles missing

More information about ZXDB can be found here:
- Github, https://github.com/zxdb/ZXDB
- Discussion forum, https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/forums/ ... 9f850384a6

- ZXDB is for the community, by the community -

-thanks

Above posted by me on behalf of the people that have contributed to ZXDB,

Mark

Although ZXDB is primarily known as a ZX Spectrum database, that's not correct. Right now, ZXDB contains 3,406 ZX81 titles, also hundreds of other titles for the ZX80, Z88, Sinclair QL, Jupiter Ace, and many others.

Besides announcing new ZX81 games (and others) in this forum, adding them to an archive like ZXDB has many advantages. For users, it's much easier to find games to play. For instance you can use advanced search at SpectrumComputing, select "Machine: ZX81" and "Clone: Space Invaders" to get this:

https://spectrumcomputing.co.uk/list?li ... chine_id=X

Likewise for authors, it increases the chance of new people finding and playing their games. That's the reason they created these games in the first place, right?

Unfortunately we have a very small team so it's impossible for us to keep up with all platforms, especially for new releases. For this reason, we are asking for your help!

Especially if you are a game (or program) developer, could you please check if all your games are already catalogued there, adding yourself the ones that are missing? This process if very simple. You only need to register in the SpectrumComputing forum, then click on HELP! to add missing information. If it's a self-published title, you can put your name as both "author" and "publisher". If you have any questions, feel free to ask either here or at SpectrumComputing forum. Thank you!

It doesn't need to be your own game, you can also help us by adding information from other games, perhaps the ones you particularly like? Just please check first if each title doesn't exist already, to avoid duplicates. Notice there's a delay (usually 1 or 2 weeks) before added information goes online.

Both ZXDB and SpectrumComputing are non-profitable purely voluntary efforts. We don't "spam" anyone and we don't make a cent out of this (there are not site adverts for instance). We dedicate out time freely to benefit the entire community. Therefore any help is appreciated. Thank you!!!
