Programs which use Hi-Res Graphics on the Sinclair ZX81
Programs which use Hi-Res Graphics on the Sinclair ZX81
I thought it might be useful to start a thread where we can list all of the software which supports hi-res Graphics on the ZX81 and the hi-res scheme used. It will form an update to the list at: http://www.pictureviewerpro.com/hosting/zx81/fredn.htm and dispel the myth that ZX81 graphics are all low resolution and boring.
So far as I understand, the different schemes available are:
Memotech HRG Interface
Memotech UDG Interface
QuickSilva (QS) HRG Interface
G007 Interface
WRX - uses Wilf's Hi-res drivers and needs a modified RAM pack
HRG-ms - uses Matthias's Hi-res drivers and needs a modified RAM pack
Pseudo Hi-Res (software only)
UDG card mapped at 3000h
UDG-128 - UDG card with chr$ 128 scheme mapped at 3000h
I presume that they all provide 256x192 pixels?
I know about:

The memotech HRG has a resolution of 248x192.
It is described here: http://www.user.dccnet.com/wrigter/inde ... motech.htm

There is also some software and demos by Bodo Wenzel available from his webpage
One of his demos talks about 320x240 hi-res graphics on the ZX81 !!
He lists:
GAMES
Puzzle99 (WRX)

DEMO PROGRAMS
25thAnni (demo) (WRX)
MaxDemo (WRX - needs 24K)

Re: Programs which use Hi-Res Graphics on the Sinclair ZX81
Works fine with EO: set the hardware to a 16K Zeddy (not more!!!) and WRX off.RWAP wrote: Z-Xtricator (Pseudo Hi-Res - although a different scheme) - I can't get this to work on EightyOne....
First load XTR, run it and then press BREAK. Then put SCREEN.P into the tape manger window and type
GOTO 16
to continue loading the next part.

Re: Programs which use Hi-Res Graphics on the Sinclair ZX81
Well that works now thanks - I can see why this game was a bit of a disappointment - not too bad for a scramble clone, but why does your ship crash and explode when you are a distance away from either the ground or the top of the screen!!

Re: Programs which use Hi-Res Graphics on the Sinclair ZX81
I may not be remembering correctly, but I think QS (Quiksilva) also had their own high-res interface.

Yes so they did - I have found some information on programming it (in French):BrunoFlorindo wrote:I may not be remembering correctly, but I think QS (Quiksilva) also had their own high-res interface.

Wow. I wasn't aware of that site. And to my surprise Google translate does a great job translating it!

It seems that most info about the card can be found here:
http://translate.googleusercontent.com/ ... cVXgpqf-3A
note: The above site is also a must for ZX81 users. The author is a member here (I think) and he has many good things on his site: schematics, documentation, articles with explanations about how interfaces work, list of available zx81 emulators and comparison chart, and many more zx81 resources!

One tiny correction;
Rock Crush and Dan's revenge use pseudo hires IIRC.

Re: Programs which use Hi-Res Graphics on the Sinclair ZX81
Yeah, but Google does not understand BASIC very well. The translation result of program line 290 is quite funny:BrunoFlorindo wrote:Wow. I wasn't aware of that site. And to my surprise Google translate does a great job translating it!

"REM 290 MW JK XY DR DR DR VW JK"
Perhaps French Zeddies understand that?
