"Noir Shapes" work-in-progress demo.

Post by bobs »

Something for the weekend sirs?

Here's the first 12 levels of a game I'm currently converting to the ZX81 whilst putting the final touches to my current Spectrum game.

The original, called "Cool Shapes", is from the same people who made "Miner Man" which I converted to the '81 around this time last year, but this time I've got more levels, and will probably/hopefully launch first!

The premise is simple enough - just move the various shapes to fill the hatched area...

Download from:

And let me know if all is good?

I'd especially like to here from people who are playing it on a real machine (I've only ran it on emulators so far), American / 60Hz players (to see if the time count-down is accurate), and ZXpand users (to see if I've got the joystick support correct this time!)

To be honest,

all ZX81 users are spoiled the last years.

Bob moved to ZX81 from ZX Spectrum and I am too.
(I still hear them wheap over the loss of Bob at Wos)

I haven't the slightest idea what's all about in the game but I would do one thing for sure: self-repeated keyboard.
Having that - I can decipher further game without problems. ;)
Anywayz. Good luck with the work!!!

WOW... Bob you've has yet again pulled the rabbit out of the magic hat.... It's looking very good, i at first thought auto-repeat keys would be good, but then after playing it for what seems like ages i found it didn't really matter anyway, i really like the animation of the block when you pick it up that a very nice touch.

Regards Andy

I'll look at adding an auto-repeat on the controls, but all the time I was writing and testing it I didn't think it was required as the playing area isn't very large, and you are often not moving the shapes very far. Tapping the keys will always move you quicker though, and in the later levels I don't really give you the time to idly wait for an auto-repeat to kick in! ;)

Wonderful stuff! Excellent with a joystick - I have to prepare some hardware to test against the real thing but I'll try that today.

More levels please!!
