Are there any issues with eliminating the internal 5v regulator and simply inputting 5v directly from a modern power supply?

I was following the directions for installing the vla81 along with the 32K RAM expansion. I tied pin 35 of the VLA to A13 (pin 26) of the RAM chip. But I didn't realize I needed to lift pin 26 out of the socket. By soldering the wire directly to pin 26, I fed 5v directly into pin 35 of the VLA. Luck...
